Gorgeous Silver & Cloisonné Enamel Compact

Ref: ACMC46
Sold
Gorgeous silver and enamel compact, dating from the early 20th century. This eye catching piece has a round silver body, with bead decoration to the edges. The interior is fitted with a mirror, which is held in place with a retainer featuring floral motifs and there is a hand stitched powder retainer. The lid is hinged and decorated with exquisite Cloisonné enamel, in reds, blues and greens. Cloisonné is a technique where formed wires in closed shapes are affixed onto a base and then filled with enamel. The wires form raised partitions surrounding these individual cells. As can be seen here, it creates a wonderful and attractive display. A lovely collectors item, still usable today. Hallmarks:- Clear and readable, marked 925 sterling silver.
