Exquisite Early Victorian Silver Snuff Mull Vinaigrette

Ref: ACA1918
Sold
This is a truly exquisite early Victorian silver vinaigrette in the form of a Scottish snuff mull. This superb example has a horn body, mounted with silver and is designed to be worn as a brooch. The attention to detail is evident, with the Scottish thistle used as a motif to both the hinged silver repoussé lid and the engraved tip. Both of these are set with wonderful Amethyst paste stones, the lid being facet cut and the tip of cabochon form. With the lid open the lightly gilt, pierced and beautifully engraved vinaigrette grill is revealed, along with a makers mark to the top inside. To the front is a shield shaped vacant cartouche and the vinaigrette is fitted with a suspension chain and C clasp for the brooch pin. A fabulous example, still usable and wearable today and making for a great addition to any collection. Hallmarks:- Tests as sterling silver. Makers Mark only Date:- Circa 1840 Maker:- PW
