A fantastic silver sugar sifter or caster by the great maker of William Comyns. This superb piece dated to the late Victorian period and is made from an excellent gauge silver, weighing in at an impressive 350 grams.
The round body of this stunning example stands on a raised and decorated pedestal base. The decoration is repeated to the body in wrythen form and features floral and foliate motifs. The neck is stepped and elevated with wonderful cast Acanthus leaf details and three applied cast flying scrolls, the latter reaching upwards towards the rim which is finished with a gadroon border. The push fit lid continues the stylized floral and foliate motifs and is pierced with circular and diamond shaped holes. This fabulous caster is completed with a cast finial and certainly commands attention on the table. A high quality piece of usable late Victorian silverware, by a desirable and collectable maker.
