A lovely early Victorian sewing box of rectangular form with the original key. This gorgeous example is of beautiful rosewood, with a deep and attractive grain. The lid and front are inlaid with mother-of pearl discs, pewter stringing and the box is finished with a rectangular vacant cartouche to the lid and a oval lock escutcheon to the front. The interior is in original condition, with the fabric and paint being in an attractive fuchsia pink colourway. Included within the box are four carved mother-of-pearl reel holders - along with a mother-of pearl thread holder, fitted pin cushion, a pair of fine scissors and a thimble. A wonderful collectors piece and ready to go gift idea. Origin :- English. Date :- c1850.
